Fear No More, Dear Women

Of all the things that we learnt as kids, being fearless never made it to our curriculum. Fear was pretty much our entire syllabus. Being God fearing, fear of low grades, fear of your parents for trying something different in your life, fear of what the society will think if you marry outside your caste or religion, fear of talking back to anyone who is physically stronger than you, fear of being raped, etc. It was instilled within us at a very young age, more so when you're born a girl. Rules are set along every step you take in your life and if you stray from these rules then you are simply inviting the wrath upon yourself.

The short film titled 'That Day After Everyday' was a gentle reminder of this life we are leading. This must-watch short film is the work of none other than Anurag Kashyap. Watch it, and you might just make you change everything you have been taught about fear, irrespective of your source. The story involves three women, who have been taught never to retaliate and remain docile in the face of danger. Their victory over this fear by standing up for themselves forms the rest of the story. Sandhya Mridul makes an unexpected appearance and delivers, as usual, with such suave. The closing scene is an amusing scene, an interesting twist that shows how empowerment can change your position in your own home. For those who are not particularly a fan of working in the kitchen, do watch.

My Take on 'Gravity'

If you did not ask why Sandra Bullock's name is Ryan before George Clooney did then you were not paying close enough attention. And if you were then you could well be sitting at the edge of your seat throughout the film. From the moment the movie begins, you keep hoping that there will be someone to come rescue them but the Director, Alfonso Cuaron has something else in mind.

The protagonists, Sandra Bullock as Dr. Ryan Stone is a bio medical engineer and  the gorgeous George Clooney, Matt Kowalski is a senior astronaut heading the space mission. The last thing you will expect is Clooney's role being so short lived. He is a tease for whatever little time he is on screen and when your brain starts its normal thinking at the end of the movie you wish that there was more of him in the movie even if it was defying all logical explanation of how he came back to that soyuz capsule with Bullock. You want him to be alive. There was more to him than being the astronaut who broke the record of the longest space walk.

The poor fellow who acts as Shariff with an unnecessarily heavy Indian accent has hardly anything to do in the film. You think you will get the opportunity to look at his face considering the horrible accent he puts on but your wish is fulfilled only by a photograph of his instead. Bullock acts brilliantly yet again showing how she can be herself in front of the camera as well. This woman centric film is rather gripping, especially after they take Clooney away from the screen (yes, I am still harping about it) it makes you wonder if she will be able to make it safely to earth or just disappear into space rejoining her daughter on the other side.

The fact that it is made is 3D is simply genius and makes you hold on to your glasses when you see the debris in the space coming in your direction to destroy you too. There is absolutely nothing you can complain about in the film but hope for just one thing that maybe there will be a sequel to this film and they will find Matt Kowalski, alive and kicking. The movie posters have Don't let go written on the them so maybe I am just being obedient.

Gracefully Dancing in Ram Leela

It is either a girl gyrating or twerking on a raunchy item number with hardly any emphasis on choreography or dance per say. While I felt that folk dance was becoming extinct in the Bollywood industry I saw the song Nagada Sang Dhol from the upcoming movie Ram Leela that completely enthralled me. I could expect nothing less from Sanjay Leela Bhansali after the kind of dances he gave in movies like Devdas and Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam. I went on to watch the next song Lahu Munh Lag Gaya which was too hot to handle with Deepika Padukone being a complete tease.

The beats of the song are pretty catchy and the choreography beautiful. For those of you who think that the Ram Leela songs are similar to Dholi Taro in Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam, it is probably because the choreographers are the same which I found out after some investigation. Arsh & Samir Tanna, the choreographers in question, have choreographed the two songs in Ram Leela and they sure have a certain approach that defines their style of dance choreography.

Here is the video to the making of the song Nagada Sang Dhol -
